The Upper Grand Valley Pest Control District, established in 1965 under Colorado's Pest Control Act, serves as a vital resource for protecting commercial growers in Western Colorado from insect, disease, and weed infestations. The district encompasses the fruit-growing area at the east end of the Grand Valley, with boundaries defined as I-70 to the north, 33 Road to the west (north of the railroad tracks), 30 Road to the west (south of the railroad tracks), Cameo to the east, and Orchard Mesa Irrigation Canal Number 2 to the south.
Residents and growers within these boundaries are responsible for maintaining their properties to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. This includes managing neglected or unmanaged fruit trees, controlling pests, and ensuring compliance with district regulations.
